LARRY FOREMAN’ STORY

Posted: May 31, 2012 in Uncategorized

There’s no better way to personify public speaking than in Lanre Nwabueze. With a vision to be a beacon of hope to the next generation seeking to find their foothold in a disturbed environment and to be a voice of change.

Lanre Nwabueze, also known by his stage name as Larry Foreman, has taken public speaking to another dimension, he is a symbol of how passion can revolutionize a person.

But how he started is no different than all other entrepreneurs, who simply followed their heart.

Lanre’s journey began about 4years ago, before his Larry Foreman days. Lanre had enrolled for Globacom Marathon Event, as a monitoring runner to be on watch should incase an emergency occurred as the race progressed. The zone he was to monitor was Ozumba Mbadiwe Street, Victoria Island.

The sun was scorching, but Larry poured his energy into the task with the hope of his reward.

During the course of the race Larry noticed Gbenga Adeyinka, a popular comedian, who had been appointed as the MC of the event on stage, at that point thoughts began streaming into Larry’s mind, and he began asking himself questions,” how much would this guy earn for just being on stage compared to me who’s doing all the hard work?”

“It is not how hard you work, but how smart”

At the end of the day Larry received the sum of  =N=7,000, of which  =N=2,000 was deducted for tax, and of course Gbenga Adeyinka would earn more than he did for just being on stage.  It was then the answers to his question became quite clear, and he knew within himself he needed to restructure his life.

Larry took a first degree course in human kinetics which would have spanned for 2years, but midway into it, he went back to retake JAMB examination, he got into the University of Lagos  and decided to stick to philosophy, this he describes as one of the best choices he ever made.

In 2009, Larry participated in Own the Stage, an event launched to promote public speaking, the event  took place in the University of Lagos, Larry contended with several other good speakers, and although this was Larry’s first experience on the stage he received an award as the BEST FOREMAN.

“You will only get what you deserve, no more, no less”

He was also granted a scholarship by Fate Foundation to partake in a one-week entrepreneurship program called Samsung Real Dream, a program geared at promoting entrepreneurship amongst youths.

Larry claims to have never thought of public speaking as a path he would tread, but visiting Fate Foundation changed a lot of things especially his view of the gift he soon discovered he possessed.

On one occasion, one of the facilitators, Mr. Johnson Abbaly had requested everyone to make an informal introduction; who they were and what business they were into. On getting to Larry, he was amazed at his introduction and was forced to ask Larry if he was a speaker. He was still astonished at Larry’s confidence that he asked Larry to re-introduce himself but this time as a speaker, which Larry brilliantly did.

“First impression matters a lot”

There was no doubt that Larry had left a lasting impression on Mr. Abbaly, that a few days later Mr. Abbaly asked Larry to anchor an event he was hosting called Vision Reloaded. Although this was his first time anchoring an event, Larry handled the event like a PRO and received several accolades from the people present and recalls  that day as a blessed day.

“Is public speaking on demand?” he remembers asking himself.

A yes was the answer that followed.

Larry felt the need to take his passion a little more seriously than he did and this decision led him to BBC where he was amongst those chosen to be trained, and was went on chosen to be part of kilonshele, an awareness program for AIDS.

Larry seeks to be a voice of change, a voice of help, a voice to be associated with worldwide, a voice of unity, a voice not just to motivate but also to take action, a voice of harmony, a voice of love and most importantly a voice for Jesus.

Indeed his voice grows stronger and stronger and has been recognized by the organizations he has worked with.

“Prepare for the famine, all days will not be rosy”

Larry describes procrastination as the destructive factor of every business, as well as unbelief. All entrepreneurs are risk-takers, and you should believe in every risk you take.

Larry advices aspiring entrepreneurs to not wait for money before they get started but rather look for alternatives, and strongly insists that no one should start a business because everyone is doing it.

“Be healthy, take yourself out on treats, visit places, network with great minds, build good lasting relationships and don’t wait for anyone to tell you to start before you start”, says Larry.

“Success is not graded by money, but the ability to do anything and do it well”Image
